The built environment in Kenya and across Africa is extraordinary. Much of it has never been properly documented.
Curated by Wanza is an editorial platform dedicated to changing that, an archive of architecture, interiors and spatial culture in Kenya and across Africa, approached through a design-led lens and with the depth and cultural context these spaces deserve.
The platform began with a simple observation: extraordinary spaces exist everywhere across this continent. Hotels, cafés, homes, studios, offices, restaurants, religious institutions, cultural spaces and the buildings we pass every day. Yet very few are recorded with any real intention.
We are building the archive that should already exist.
Every feature is approached with the eye of a designer and the discipline of an editorial platform. We look not only at how a space appears, but at what it communicates: the atmosphere of a room, the honesty of its materials, the relationship between architecture and identity, and the details that stay with you long after you leave.
Curated by Wanza is as much about preservation as it is about discovery, creating a lasting visual and written record of design culture evolving in Kenya and across Africa.
About the Founder
Lorraine Wanza
Curated by Wanza was founded by Lorraine Wanza, a Nairobi-based interior designer with a longstanding interest in how spaces shape memory, culture and identity.
Her work is rooted in observation, materials, atmosphere and the quiet details that make a space meaningful. Through Curated by Wanza, she brings a designer's eye to the built environment in Kenya and across Africa, documenting places that may otherwise go unnoticed but carry real architectural, cultural and emotional weight.
For Lorraine, the platform is not only about beautiful spaces. It is about building an archive, one that reflects how Kenya and Africa live, design, gather, work, worship and express themselves through space.
What We Document
